In the first quarter of 2026, the number of vacant jobs in Romania was 28,300, down by 4,300 compared to the same period in 2025, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The highest vacancy rates were observed in the energy sector (1.48%), public administration (1.02%), and cultural activities (0.96%). Almost 23% of the vacancies were in the budget sector, with 2,700 positions in health and social assistance. The lowest rates were recorded in other services (0.17%) and the extractive industry (0.24%).

Compared to the previous quarter, significant decreases were observed in professional and technical activities, but increases in hotels and restaurants.

By occupation groups, specialists in various fields had the most vacancies (7,800), while skilled workers in agriculture had the fewest (under 100).

The statistics highlight a general trend of decreasing vacancies in various sectors, with the exception of hotels and health.
