NIS, the Serbian oil company controlled by 45% by Gazprom, announced that the American sanctions against it have come into effect, after a nine-month pause. Although banks must cease transactions with NIS, the company will be able to continue sales through the national card. NIS assures that it has sufficient resources to maintain its operations and jobs. Despite external pressures, Serbia remains tied to Russia, continuing to import Russian gas.
