TTM Technologies, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of printed circuit boards and a major supplier to the U.S. military, is entering the Romanian market through the acquisition of the MKS Ophir factory in Bucharest. The transaction is part of the takeover of the Ophir Optics division, which operates in Romania and Israel, for approximately €650 million.

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2027, subject to obtaining the necessary approvals. The Bucharest factory currently employs more than 180 people and manufactures high-performance optical components and subassemblies.

Products made in Bucharest are used in fields including defense, security, the automotive industry and metalworking. The deal marks TTM Technologies’ expansion into Romania. The U.S. company specializes in electronic components and solutions, including those intended for the military sector.

The factory is currently owned by MKS Instruments, which previously announced plans to develop its local operations. The company intended to increase the number of engineers and technicians in Romania by approximately 50%, to around 270 employees, amid growing European demand for defense-related solutions.
