The U.S. government has reaffirmed that Russian oil deliveries to Cuba remain banned, despite recent relaxations of sanctions on Russian oil. The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a document stating that, although sales of Russian oil are permitted until April 11 for already loaded deliveries, they cannot benefit Cuba or North Korea.
This decision comes in the context of efforts to stabilize the global energy market affected by the war in the Middle East. Cuba has not imported oil since January 9, when the last delivery from Mexico took place, under the pressure of sanctions imposed by the U.S.
The relaxation of sanctions has been criticized by Ukraine and European allies, who fear the impact on efforts to limit Russia's resources in its conflict with Ukraine.
