The United States has asked the European Union to "rebalance" regulations in the digital sector before reducing tariffs imposed on imports of oil and aluminum. During a meeting in Brussels, American officials, led by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, emphasized that the EU needs to rethink the rules it considers unbalanced. Lutnick stated that once the EU creates an acceptable framework, discussions about tariffs can take place. He also mentioned that more balanced rules could attract investments of up to one trillion dollars in the EU.
The European Commission insisted that its regulations are not discriminatory, but acknowledged the US desire to discuss the issue. The trade agreement from July provides for the reduction of tariffs on European goods, but its implementation requires approval from the European Parliament, which could delay the process. Trade tensions are rising, with the US imposing high tariffs on oil and aluminum, while Brussels wants to expand the range of European products subject to reduced tariffs. Future discussions will also address regulatory cooperation and economic security.
