The United States and the European Union reaffirm their commitment to the trade agreement reached last year, according to statements by Jamieson Greer, the U.S. trade representative. The agreement was signed in July 2025, but the ratification process in the EU is still ongoing.
Recently, President Trump threatened with higher tariffs if the EU does not meet its obligations by July 4. The U.S. has proposed new tariffs of up to 12.5% on imports from 60 economies, including the EU, citing deficiencies in combating forced labor.
Brussels reacted critically, calling the tariffs unacceptable.
Greer mentioned that Washington has reservations about some aspects of European legislation for implementing the agreement. Transatlantic trade relations are strained due to the tariff policies of the Trump administration and regulatory differences.
