The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, stated that during Monday's meeting of the governing coalition, several scenarios were discussed to cope with the record increases in fuel prices. Ivan mentioned the reactivation of the Petrotel Lukoil refinery and the postponement of the technical revision at the Petromidia refinery, while the Petrobrazi refinery operates at maximum capacity. He emphasized that fuel prices have increased by 50 bani in Romania, a smaller increase compared to other European countries. The minister specified that five scenarios are being prepared to limit the increase in fuel and natural gas prices, in the context where oil prices have reached historic levels worldwide.
Ivan assured that the authorities are monitoring the market to prevent speculations by traders and mentioned that control institutions are involved in verifying compliance with legislation by companies in the oil industry.
Additionally, solutions are being sought to protect carriers and farmers from the impact of these increases.
