The Romanian government will discuss in Thursday's meeting a memorandum proposed by the Minister of Economy, Radu Miruță, regarding the adjustment of the price of natural mineral water at source, depending on the inflation rate. The current price of 43.25 lei/1,000 liters has not been modified since April 2022. The Ministry of Economy proposes an increase of 13.55 lei, which would raise the price to 56.80 lei/1,000 liters, an increase of approximately 30%.
Although an increase in the price at source is anticipated, the Ministry of Economy argues that this should not affect retail prices, as the adjustment will not have a negative impact on production costs for bottlers. According to current legislation, prices can be adjusted every three months, based on the consumer price index published by the National Institute of Statistics.
