The European Commission has announced an agreement that allows EU fleets to fish up to 288,000 tons of fish, valued at over 1.2 billion euros. This agreement, which also includes fishing relations with Norway, will increase the total fishing possibilities for 2026 to over 520,000 tons, estimated at approximately 950 million euros. The agreement is considered essential for managing the EU's common resources in the North-East Atlantic, aiming to restore fish stocks to healthy levels. EU fishing ministers will meet to discuss fishing quotas for the next year, especially for mackerel, a delicate issue given the scientific recommendations to drastically reduce the quota by 70%. The French Minister of Fishing emphasized the seriousness of the mackerel stock situation.
