The Ministry of Finance announced on Monday a budget deficit of 69.8 bn lei (3.68% of GDP) at 6 months, up almost 10% compared to the same period in 2024

At June 30, 2025, the budget deficit reached 3.68% of GDP, up from the previous year. Total expenditures exceeded RON 380 billion, while interest and personnel costs increased significantly. Revenues have increased, but austerity measures are needed, including tax increases. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has announced a package of measures including limiting allowances in state companies and introducing performance indicators for political appointments.
