Romania's budget deficit reached 5.39% of GDP, amounting to 102.47 billion lei, in the first nine months of 2025.

According to data from the Ministry of Finance, Romania's consolidated budget deficit has increased to 5.39% of GDP, equivalent to 102.47 billion lei, after the first three quarters of 2025. Total revenues have increased by 12.3% compared to the previous year, reaching 466.95 billion lei, and their share in GDP has risen by 0.9 percentage points, due to income taxes, insurance contributions, and European funds.


General consolidated budget expenditures have reached 569.43 billion lei, recording a nominal increase of 11.2% compared to the same period last year. As a percentage of GDP, expenditures have risen from 29.1% to 29.9%. Romania has agreed with the European Commission to end the year with a deficit of 8.4% of GDP.
