Romania has recorded the highest consumption growth in Europe, with an inflation of 7.84% in 2025, influenced by the increase in VAT and in the prices of goods and services.

Romania's economy relies on consumption, with 5.8% growth in 2024, according to Eurostat. Inflation reached 7.84%, with significant increases in food and services. The government increased VAT, and prices rose automatically. The biggest increases were on electricity (+62.97%) and non-food goods. In contrast, some prices fell, such as sugar and potatoes. Price increases also affected services, including transportation and healthcare.
