The negotiations between Samsung's management and the employees' unions of the semiconductor division were concluded on Wednesday, with government mediation, ahead of a planned protest. The unions demanded higher bonuses, and the agreement provides for the creation of a bonus fund equivalent to 10.5% of the division's operational profit, plus 1.5% in cash, totaling up to 12% of profit. Approximately 78,000 employees are expected to receive, on average, 509 million won each (approximately 338,000 dollars). The agreement is valid for 10 years but is conditional on achieving ambitious financial targets. However, a group of shareholders is contesting the legality of certain provisions of the agreement and threatens with lawsuits. Samsung's operational profit increased by 750% compared to the previous year, and the company plays a crucial role in the South Korean economy, with semiconductors representing 35% of total exports.
