The National Institute of Statistics (INS) reported that Romania's usable natural gas production was 1.889 million tons of oil equivalent in the first three months of 2026, registering a decrease of 1.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. In contrast, natural gas imports increased significantly by 53.9%, reaching 1.029 million toe.
According to estimates from the National Commission for Strategy and Forecast (CNSP), an average annual increase in natural gas production of 1.7% is expected until 2027, with an estimated production of 7.907 million toe for 2026 and 8.176 million toe for 2027. Imports, on the other hand, are expected to decrease, with a reduction of 2.7% in 2026 and 6% in 2027, due to the advancement of production and new exploitation capacities.
