The Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) approved Romania's request for funds under the SAFE mechanism, totaling 16.68 billion euros. These funds will be used in a proportion of 75% for the purchase of military equipment, public order, and civil defense, while 25% will be allocated to dual infrastructure, including the Pașcani-Siret and Pașcani-Ungheni highways. CSAT also reviewed the Investment Plan in the defense industry, which will be sent to the European Commission. The funds must be used for the development of production capabilities in Romania, with a local production requirement of at least 50%. A web platform will be created to connect Romanian companies with major European manufacturers, thus contributing to Romania's strategic independence and the development of the European military industry. All SAFE programs must be completed by 2030.
