Romania, last in the EU in service production growth in April

Service production in the European Union increased by 1.8% in April 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Romania, however, was the member state with the most significant decline, recording a decrease of 5.8%, according to Eurostat data published on Tuesday.


The largest increases in service production were observed in Bulgaria (9.3%), Estonia (6.4%), and Poland (6%). In terms of service segments, there were increases of 3% in transport and storage, 5.6% in information and communication, but decreases of 1.9% in accommodation and food services. Compared to the previous month, service production increased by 0.3% in the EU, with Romania reporting a decline of 1.4% in April, after an increase of 1.4% in March. The largest monthly increases were in Belgium (2.1%) and Greece (1.6%), while Hungary experienced the most severe decline, at 13.9%.
