RCA insurance policy prices rose by approximately 15% in the first six months of 2026, and further increases may follow. The biggest hikes affect drivers under 30, those driving powerful cars, and owners of vehicles registered in Bucharest and Ilfov, where the frequency of claims is higher.

The first solution is to register the car in the owner’s home county, if they live in Bucharest or Ilfov but come from another area. Differences in premiums can reach 40%. For example, for a driver under 30, the reference premium ranges from 2,361 lei in the rest of the country to 3,974 lei in Bucharest, for cars with lower engine power.

The second option is to use the high-risk insured system administered by BAAR. The driver must have at least three valid offers from different insurers, for 12 months, and all of them must exceed the reference premium multiplied by factor N, currently set at 36%, and the bonus-malus coefficient. Discounts can reach 20–25%.

A third solution is to transfer the car into the name of a spouse with a more favorable risk and bonus-malus profile. All drivers must be declared to the insurer because, in the event of an accident, the company may recover the compensation from the owner.
