Prime Minister Luca Niculescu said Wednesday morning at the Ministry of Investments and European Projects that completing the National Recovery and Resilience Plan is the Government’s main urgent priority. By the end of the year, the executive must determine how much more European funding Romania can attract, with the prime minister estimating approximately €3 billion.
The statement was made as the handover sessions for ministerial mandates began. Niculescu identified three priorities for the coming period: completing the PNRR, accelerating the absorption of cohesion funds, and negotiating the European Union’s future budget.
After clarifying the PNRR situation, the Government intends to focus on cohesion funds. The prime minister said Romania ranks among the top ten European states in attracting these funds and emphasized their role in supporting the economy and financing investments.
Niculescu said Romania has a positive financial balance of approximately €72 billion in its relationship with the European Union since joining in 2007, having received this amount above its contribution to the community budget.
