On Thursday, Prime Minister Luca Niculescu asked Energy Minister Dumitru Chisăliță to prepare a report serving as the basis for the Government to adopt a package of measures to more effectively harness Romania’s energy mix. The document will be drafted together with representatives of the ministries involved.
The Prime Minister stressed that energy is essential to the country’s competitiveness and economic attractiveness, as well as to Romanians. The new development is the launch of a government initiative to coordinate measures in the sector, against the backdrop of projects to develop energy production and transmission.
One of the areas targeted is offshore wind energy in the Black Sea. The Energy Minister announced on Wednesday that the governing program provides for the concession of three areas for electricity generation projects, with an estimated potential of approximately 3,100 megawatts.
For investors, the authorities must clarify in advance the terms of the concessions and the possibility of transmitting the energy produced to shore. The Government has already approved the list of eligible areas, as well as the rules on concessions, royalties and taxes. The next steps include wind measurements, seabed studies, environmental impact assessment, connection design and the final investment decision.
