Romania is seeking to strengthen fiscal predictability and attract more private capital for strategic projects in infrastructure, energy, defense, digitalization, and industry, interim Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare said after meetings in New York with representatives of J.P. Morgan.
The discussions focused on reducing the deficit, gradually lowering the state’s financing needs and costs, as well as keeping investment and European funds at the center of economic growth. In a message posted on Facebook, Nazare said that Romania must demonstrate to investors that it is adhering to its commitments, continuing reforms, and using European funds efficiently.
According to the minister, public investment reached approximately 76.5 billion lei in the first seven months of the year, 24% above the level recorded during the same period last year. Approximately 71% of this investment was financed through European funds and the NRRP.
Although Romania remains under the excessive deficit procedure, Nazare says that budget execution and the country’s credibility have improved. The next objective is to transform public investments into bankable projects capable of attracting larger volumes of private capital.
The minister is participating, from September 21-22, 2026, in economic and financial meetings held in New York, as part of the official delegation led by President Nicușor Dan, on the occasion of the UN General Assembly.
