Natural gas imports increased by 75% in 2024, but CNSP estimates an increase in production and a decrease in imports by 2027.

Last year, natural gas imports in Romania increased by 75%, reaching nearly 3.2 million toe (tonnes of oil equivalent). According to estimates from the National Commission for Strategy and Forecasting (CNSP), natural gas production will grow annually by 1.7% until 2027. Projections for 2025 indicate a production of 7.79 million toe, while for 2026 and 2027, it is estimated to be 7.907 million toe and 8.176 million toe, respectively. Regarding imports, a downward trend is expected, with a decrease of 6% estimated for 2027, due to increased production and the commissioning of new capacities. CNSP estimates imports of 2.211 million toe for 2025, 2.150 million toe for 2026, and 2.022 million toe for 2027.
