Microsoft announced on Thursday a significant investment of $17.9 billion in Australia, planned until the end of 2029, to enhance computing capacity and artificial intelligence (AI) in the context of increasing demand for these technologies.

This initiative, described by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella as the company's largest investment in Australia, will support the expansion of supercomputing infrastructure and Azure AI cloud, strengthen cybersecurity, and promote the development of skills in the field of AI. Nadella emphasized the huge opportunity that Australia has to transform AI into economic and social benefits. This investment comes at a time when Microsoft is facing increased competition in the field of AI assistants, and the company is rapidly improving the Copilot tool to remain competitive. It is also estimated that major players in the tech sector will jointly invest about $650 billion in AI-related infrastructure this year, highlighting Australia's importance as a top-tier market in this field.
