Google will invest €13 billion in Finland’s digital infrastructure

Google announced on Wednesday that it will invest at least €13 billion in Finland over the next two years to develop digital infrastructure and data centers designed to support artificial intelligence models. The investment, which the company considers its largest to date in Europe, will be carried out in the municipalities of Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala.

The project also includes funding for initiatives focused on clean energy, biodiversity protection, education, research and skills development. Construction is scheduled for 2027 and 2028, and Google estimates that it will increase Finland’s GDP by €3.6 billion annually and support more than 37,000 jobs, including 16,000 in construction.

Once construction is completed, operating the infrastructure is expected to generate approximately 7,000 jobs per year in technical fields, among equipment and service suppliers, and in the local economy.

Finland is attracting an increasing number of data centers due to its relatively cheap energy and cool climate. Google has been present in the country since 2009, when it converted a former paper mill in Hamina into a data center.️?latex?~? latex? no
