Meta Platforms announces massive layoffs in the context of redirecting towards AI

Meta Platforms has begun a new wave of layoffs affecting several hundred employees, including from the Facebook, recruitment, and Reality Labs departments.

The layoffs come in the context in which the company is redirecting its investments towards artificial intelligence, trying to regain ground against rivals like OpenAI and Google.

In January, Meta had already laid off over 1,000 employees from the Reality Labs division, affecting about 10% of the staff in this division. Although some affected individuals may receive offers for other positions within the company, these may involve relocation.

Meta continues to hire specialists in generative artificial intelligence, having recently entered into a licensing agreement with the startup Dreamer.
