Representatives of SMEs in Romania warned that the increase in the gross minimum wage in the country, accompanied by a rise in taxation and without a support package for SMEs, will transfer the additional costs to entrepreneurs. This will lead to an increase in the prices of products and services, affecting the competitiveness of Romanian businesses. In the context of a budget crisis and a recessionary economy, SMEs need support, not increased costs. Furthermore, the increase in the minimum wage over the last three years has exceeded the inflation rate, but a new increase could lead to layoffs and market distortion through unfair competition. SMEs in Romania propose that a solution for increasing wage income be the reduction of taxation on labor, which would allow for a sustainable increase in income for employees.
