Between 2019 and 2024, Greek farmers diverted European agricultural subsidies worth over 22 million euros by falsifying land ownership. The investigation, led by the European Public Prosecutor's Office, resulted in raids and document seizures, as well as resignations of ministers. Greece was fined 392 million euros by the EU for mismanagement of subsidies, and the government decided to transfer the responsibilities of OPEKEPE, the involved agency, to the tax authority to increase transparency.
