The government has extended by six months the transition period to CAEN Rev. 3, meaning companies can update their codes concerning their business activities until March 25, 2027. The decision was adopted on Thursday after data from the National Trade Register Office showed that only 37.24% of the professionals required to make the change had completed the procedure by September 25, 2026.
Interim Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Irineu Darău explained that companies need more time to transition to the new classification. In some sectors, such as commerce, construction, transport and IT, CAEN codes have been divided into several categories, and updating them may also require changes to certain permits or licenses.
The deadline extension had been requested by the IMM Romania employers’ confederation, which warned that the expiration of the initial deadline could cause bottlenecks at the Trade Register and delays for businesses that need to align their business activities with the approvals, permits and other documents required to operate.
