The price of gold could reach a new all-time high in the next 12–18 months, despite the recent correction in international markets. The precious metal fell to around $4,100 per troy ounce after reaching approximately $5,500 in January 2026.
The estimates cited by the Financial Times and reported by Tavex are based on the expectation that investors will continue buying gold as a safe-haven asset amid geopolitical uncertainties, inflation, financial turbulence and falling government bond prices.
Goldman Sachs estimates that gold could reach $4,900 per troy ounce by the end of 2026, approximately $800 above its current level.
Market prospects have also been supported by statements from Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel, who advocated diversifying central banks’ reserves by increasing their gold holdings. He drew attention to the credit risks associated with high levels of government debt and the influence of geopolitical factors.
The Bundesbank has not bought gold for nearly 30 years, so a potential policy shift could send an important signal to the markets. Analysts warn, however, that Nagel’s statements do not represent an official decision. Tavex representatives believe that a resumption of purchases by Western central banks could accelerate the rise in the price of gold.
