The summit between the European Union and Mexico took place in an international context marked by geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that the signed agreements send a message of openness and support for a rules-based international order. The two parties agreed to collaborate in the fields of trade, investments, and clean technologies, with the aim of building more resilient supply chains.

Trade relations between the EU and Mexico are valued at approximately 100 billion euros annually, and the new agreement will facilitate reciprocal exports and investments. It is also expected to protect European geographical indications and commitments regarding workers' rights and environmental protection. The summit also included an event dedicated to women's participation in the economy, and the EU announced investments of over 5 billion euros in sustainable sectors.

The modernized global agreement will require ratification by the EU member states and Mexican authorities.
