The European Union, together with partners from the financial sector, has launched the Global Green Bond Initiative Fund, a fund aimed at attracting up to 20 billion euros from private capital for financing sustainable infrastructure projects in low and middle-income countries.

The fund will allocate at least 20% of investments to the least developed economies, using green bonds denominated in euros or local currencies. These financial instruments are intended to finance green projects, including in the field of renewable energy.

The initiative will be managed by Amundi, a major asset manager in Europe.

Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, emphasized that this project highlights Europe's leadership role in sustainable financing and will contribute to mobilizing significant private investments for climate goals.

Additionally, the fund will support the development of local capital markets and the international use of the euro, in a context where green bond issuances have decreased in 2025 compared to the previous year.
