The Agency for Financing Rural Investments opens, starting September 28, €650 million in funding for the production and storage of green energy

Public institutions can submit, starting September 28, funding applications for investments in green energy production and storage through two programs managed by the Agency for the Financing of Rural Investments (AFIR). The total budget of the two calls is €650 million.

Applications and the related documents must be uploaded online through AFIR’s information system by November 20, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Applications will be evaluated on a “first come, first evaluated” basis, subject to the conditions set out in the applicant guidelines.

Of the total amount, €500 million is allocated for the construction of new electricity generation capacities using renewable solar sources. Funding may cover up to 100% of eligible expenditure, capped at €10 million per beneficiary. Support is capped at €900,000 per MW, or €1.1 million per MW for projects that include heat pumps.

Another €150 million is earmarked for developing renewable energy storage capacities. The aid may cover all eligible expenditure, up to €10 million per beneficiary, but may not exceed €200,000 for each MWh of installed storage capacity. The conditions and types of eligible expenditure are detailed in the guidelines published on the AFIR website.
