The Damen Mangalia shipyard has been valued at a market value of up to 184 million euros, with a liquidation value set at 84.1 million euros. Creditors, including employees, have been summoned by the judicial liquidator CITR to discuss and vote on the report regarding the strategy for the exploitation of the shipyard, which has debts of nearly two billion lei. On the agenda is the approval of the report and the instructions for the sale auction. German companies Rheinmetall and MSC are interested in taking over the shipyard, proposing significant investments to transform the site into a military and civilian shipbuilding center. Rheinmetall intends to produce four military ships at Damen Mangalia, financed through the European SAFE program, and to expand operations to strengthen Romania as an important European center in the defense industry. The Romanian government has approved an ordinance that allows the takeover of the functional assets of strategic companies in bankruptcy, thus facilitating the exploitation process.
