China and the European Union have decided to allow the Dutch and Chinese subsidiaries of the chip manufacturer Nexperia to resolve the conflict directly, following a videoconference between Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovic. This decision represents a change in tone from previous requests by Beijing, which called for a complete withdrawal of the Dutch government's intervention. The statement emphasizes that businesses are the main actors in resolving the dispute and promises to encourage constructive communications to restore stability in the global semiconductor supply chain. The conflict erupted after the seizure of Nexperia by the Netherlands, and Beijing imposed export controls on locally manufactured chips, affecting the production of European car manufacturers. Wang called the suspension of the seizure a "small step forward," but emphasized that uncertainty remains due to the Dutch government's interventions.
