Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced that the Romanian Government is considering measures to limit, but not cancel, price increases for fuels, following an extraordinary meeting in which the budget for 2026 was adopted. Bolojan emphasized that the war in the Middle East affects international markets, including the fuel market, which has led to significant increases.
The Prime Minister mentioned that Romania imports over two-thirds of its consumed fuel, and price increases are inevitable, but measures will be analyzed to make these increases more bearable for citizens. He avoided speculation regarding a possible reduction in excise duties, emphasizing the importance of a cautious and realistic approach in managing the economic situation: "We must not hide, a reduction in excise duty does not guarantee a decrease in prices, but it can guarantee an increase in a commercial markup. We must be realistic and not act like economic arsonists."
