The National Bank of Romania (BNR) has revised its inflation forecast for the end of 2026, increasing it from 3.7% to 3.9%. BNR Governor Mugur Isărescu explained that he expects the inflation rate to reach 2.7% by the end of 2027. He mentioned a slight increase in gas prices in the second quarter and emphasized that the forecast is based on officially approved measures.
Isărescu anticipated a rapid decrease in inflation, estimating that it will reach 3% in a few months, down from 9%. He also acknowledged that BNR has missed its inflation target in the last four years, mentioning economic challenges such as the pandemic, the nearby war, and the energy crisis. Isărescu emphasized the importance of political stability to avoid new crises.
