The Bucharest Tribunal has rejected the appeals of the ANPC in several cases, increasing to seven the number of lawsuits won by banks regarding annuities, despite the fines imposed in 2023. The courts considered that the ANPC's accusations regarding misleading practices are unfounded, thus maintaining the banks' advantage. The ANPC argues that the annuity system harms consumers, but the courts have dismissed these arguments, emphasizing that reimbursement in annuities is legal. The sanctioned banks include major financial institutions in Romania, which continue to contest the ANPC's sanctions.
