Apple is exploring the possibility of diversifying its supply chain for chips, holding preliminary discussions with Intel and Samsung for the production of processors in the United States. This initiative could provide an alternative to its long-term partnership with TSMC, the main chip manufacturer currently used. The discussions are still in the early stages, and Apple has reservations regarding the use of technologies different from those developed by TSMC, which makes the finalization of an agreement uncertain. Representatives from Apple have visited a Samsung factory under construction in Texas, intended for the production of advanced chips. The context of these discussions is marked by pressures on global semiconductor supply chains, especially due to the increased demand generated by the development of data centers for artificial intelligence. Although Apple designs its own processors, dependence on TSMC makes identifying alternative suppliers a strategic option. However, expanding collaboration with Intel and Samsung raises challenges, considering that both companies are trying to catch up to TSMC in production capacity.
