The government led by Ilie Bolojan borrowed about 176 billion lei in the first seven months of 2023, with 41 billion lei coming from recent loans. The budget deficit and the payment of previous debts made these loans necessary, and in July, the government made an exit to foreign markets, borrowing 3.75 billion dollars and 1.5 billion euros. Public debt has surpassed 1,000 billion lei and is projected to continue rising, reaching 1,100 billion lei by the end of 2025.
