The Old Bailey court in London will sentence on Friday two Romanian citizens, Nandito Badea (21 years old) and George Stana (25 years old), found guilty of the stabbing attack on British-Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati.

The incident, described by prosecutors as a "state-sponsored" assault on behalf of the Iranian government, took place on March 29, 2024, near the victim's home in Wimbledon. Zeraati, a journalist at Iran International, was stabbed three times in the thigh. Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson emphasized that the attackers targeted Zeraati because of his critical activity against the Iranian government.

On the day of the attack, Badea and another suspect, David Andrei, waited for Zeraati, and Badea stabbed him while Andrei restrained him. Stana waited in a car and claimed he did not know about the nature of the attack. David Andrei, another suspect, is not participating in the trial, having been arrested in Romania.
