A 72-year-old patient died after being attacked by a 26-year-old Romanian in the psychiatric ward of the San Camillo De Lellis hospital in Rieti, Italy.

The attack took place in the Psychiatric Diagnosis and Treatment Service, when the young man struck Antonio Martinelli with a piece of the bed frame, causing fatal injuries. Medical staff intervened quickly, but despite their efforts, Martinelli died. The police were alerted and began an investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack and the safety conditions in the hospital.
