A 31-year-old Romanian woman and a 34-year-old Iranian man have been accused by the police in Scotland after they attempted to unlawfully enter the Faslane naval base, where British nuclear submarines are stationed. The two are set to appear in front of the Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Monday. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken note of the information from the media and has contacted the British authorities to obtain details about the arrest of the Romanian woman.
The Romanian General Consulate in Edinburgh has confirmed that it will provide consular assistance, within the limits of its competencies, but cannot disclose additional information without the consent of the Romanian citizen. The British authorities have confirmed that the Romanian woman holds Romanian citizenship and was detained for violating the United Kingdom's National Security Act. The Faslane base is essential for the British submarine fleet and its Trident nuclear deterrent system.
