A minor of Romanian origin was detained by Spain’s National Police on suspicion of repeatedly committing thefts in the Playa de Palma area, one of Mallorca’s best-known beaches. The investigation began at the start of September after several tourists reported the disappearance of belongings left on the sand.
The cases were taken over by the Judicial Police Group of the Playa Police Station. According to investigators, the suspect watched tourists from a distance and acted when they entered the sea or were distracted while sunbathing.
Police say the teenager allegedly stole six mobile phones, valued at more than 3,000 euros, as well as personal documents and other valuables. In total, the minor was attributed five thefts.
The suspect was caught after a tourist couple allegedly saw him taking their belongings. The two recovered the items and kept him under observation until police arrived. After checking his identity, officers established that he was a minor and linked the case to the other complaints. The investigation is being conducted in accordance with procedures applicable to minors.
