A Romanian in Great Britain fatally stabbed a roommate following a dispute over money.

A 59-year-old Romanian, Eugeniu Neamțu, was convicted of murder by the jury of the Old Bailey court in London on August 18, after he fatally stabbed a roommate, Gheorghe Trică, following a dispute over money.

The crime took place on February 20, 2026, shortly after Neamțu moved to Walthamstow, London. Investigators determined that a quarrel broke out between the two, and Neamțu used a knife to stab Trică, inflicting a fatal wound.

Although Neamțu claimed he acted in legitimate self-defense, witnesses and evidence contradicted this version. Prosecutors highlighted striking similarities to a murder in Romania, where Neamțu was convicted in 2007 for a similar offense. The sentence in his case will be pronounced on August 21.
