A 45-year-old Romanian appeared before judges in Germany after attempting to pay at a gas station with a counterfeit 100 euro banknote, claiming he did not know the money was fake. The cashier quickly noticed that the banknote was suspicious. Accused of counterfeiting and fraud, the Romanian stated that he received the banknote from another Romanian, whom he brought to court to support his claim. The latter, wanted by the police for another crime, entered the courtroom without knowing he was being pursued. The judge asked him why he had disappeared, and the young man explained that he had been in Romania, where he received the money from a currency exchange, believing it to be authentic. Both insisted that they were unaware of the counterfeiting.
