Italian prosecutors are seeking the maximum sentence, life imprisonment, for Vasile Frumuzache, a 37-year-old Romanian accused of killing two women in Italy. The case is being judged under the femicide law, which imposes severe penalties for gender-motivated crimes.

Investigators claim that Frumuzache acted with lucidity, citing a psychiatric evaluation stating that he committed the acts "with full knowledge." Although he initially did not confess to the crimes, he later admitted them when he realized that the evidence incriminated him.

The defense contests the prosecutors' request, seeking a reduced sentence, arguing that Frumuzache acted "in good faith," as he confessed to the committed crimes. The victims were killed in violent circumstances, the first being murdered after refusing a paid sexual act, and the second after threatening to inform the man's wife. The trial is being closely followed in Italy, where the femicide law has a significant impact on the penalties applied.
