Starting July 1, Germany will introduce significant changes at gas stations, coinciding with the expiration of the fuel subsidy program known as 'Tankrabatt'. This program, which provided a discount of 17 cents per liter, will be concluded according to the agreement between CDU/CSU and SPD.

Politicians from the governing coalition, including Armand Zorn and Sepp Müller, justified this decision based on financial considerations, emphasizing that maintaining the subsidy is no longer viable. The timing chosen for the cessation of the subsidy coincides with the start of the school holidays, which could affect the holiday budgets of drivers.

Although direct support will no longer be offered, the government is analyzing new measures to assist low- and middle-income drivers, including facilities for commuters and possible interventions in the fuel market. Additionally, authorities intend to tighten the rules regarding competition in the fuel sector to prevent artificial price increases.
