The former president of ALDE, Varujan Vosganian, announced that PNL members coming from ALDE will not participate in the Extraordinary Congress scheduled for June 21, 2026. Vosganian criticized the PNL leader, Ilie Bolojan, for refusing to respect the merger protocol between ALDE and PNL, signed by Nicolae Ciucă. He compared Bolojan's actions to those of Lenin, emphasizing that the protocol stipulated representation in decision-making structures until the next ordinary Congress, expected in 2027.
Vosganian mentioned that the attitude of former ALDE members will remain constant as long as Bolojan leads PNL. The Extraordinary Congress was convened by the Extraordinary National Council of PNL, which adopted statutory amendments, including the creation of the National Permanent Bureau. The designated Prime Minister Adrian Veștea announced that he will not run for presidency, and a group of liberal parliamentarians requested the suspension of recent decisions of the BPN. The Ilfov Tribunal will judge the request on July 3.
