Brussels, November 20, 2025 - Executive Vice Presidents of the European Commission, Roxana Mînzatu and Raffaele Fitto, responsible for Social Rights, Skills, Quality Jobs and Training, and Cohesion and Reforms, respectively, will make an official visit to Bucharest tomorrow to participate in a ministerial roundtable dedicated to cohesion policy and a high-level conference on its future.

The discussions will address the mid-term review of cohesion policy and its role in the future Multiannual Financial Framework, in the context where cohesion is considered an essential tool for long-term development, economic competitiveness, and the resilience of European regions. In recent years, these themes have gained importance on the European agenda in light of the future budget of the Union.

Official meetings in Bucharest will be attended by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, along with ministers of the Romanian government and representatives of other member states involved in defining priorities for the upcoming period. Among the participants are the President of the Committee of the Regions, Kata Tüttő, Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan, the European Parliament's rapporteur for the EU budget, and the Romanian Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragoș Pîslaru.

Alongside the meetings at the conference, Vice President Mînzatu will also have a bilateral meeting with the Croatian Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds, Nataša Mikuš Žigman. For his part, Vice President Fitto will hold discussions with the President of Romania, the Prime Minister, as well as with officials from Bulgaria, Croatia, and Malta, and with the Vice President of the World Bank, Antonella Bassani.

The visit marks an important moment in the dialogue between Romania and the European Commission regarding the future direction of cohesion policy, an area in which Romania is one of the main beneficiaries at the European level. The events in Bucharest will contribute to defining the positions of member states ahead of negotiations on the new multiannual budget of the European Union.
