The President of the Călărași County Council, Vasile Iliuță, reacted on Tuesday, November 3, to press reports about the properties purchased by his family in Italy. He maintains that the acquisitions were made in 2023, from dividends for 2022, income reported in his wealth declaration.

Iliuță states that he has been active in agriculture since 1994 and that his wealth comes from more than 30 years of business activity, before entering politics. He accused the existence of political attacks and disputes and called for information about private income and public office to be clearly separated.

In the wealth declaration filed in June 2023, the politician reported dividends of 7,627,368 lei, rental income of 433,857 lei, and his remuneration as president of the County Council, amounting to 164,268 lei. A DeFapt.ro investigation identified as the source of the dividends a company with no employees in 2022. According to the press, the Iliuță family purchased in Italy a former customs post, a hotel building in the Alps, and a hotel in Rimini. The transactions were allegedly connected to forced executions. Iliuță was definitively acquitted in a DNA case and is on trial in another case concerning security contracts and damages exceeding 580,000 lei.
