On Sunday morning, a small aircraft landed in a field in the village of Frătăuții Vechi, and the locals alerted the authorities by calling 112. Police and border police quickly arrived at the scene and identified the pilot, a 31-year-old man.
He had a biometric passport and stated that he fled from Ukraine due to the war, requesting temporary protection in Romania. The police in Suceava opened a criminal case for illegal border crossing and piloting the aircraft without documents. The investigation has been taken over by the prosecutors of the Suceava Court of Appeal, and the Ukrainian will be able to remain in the country until his request for temporary protection is analyzed by the General Inspectorate for Immigration.
